Senate Bill 554 was signed into law by the Governor in March and went into effect July 1, 2024

Professionals can expedite their licensing in Virginia by first obtaining a license in North Carolina. Onsite Wastewater Professionals offers a 24-Hour Installer class equipping participants with the necessary qualifications to secure a North Carolina license quickly.

*Existing VA installers may obtain a NC license and then apply for Master Alternative without examination or other requirements.*

Reciprocal Licensing Criteria

  • Hold a current and valid license from a neighboring state with a similar scope of practice.

  • Be in good standing with no pending investigations or unresolved complaints.

  • Have a clean criminal record as per Virginia's standards.

  • Not be subject to any harmful disciplinary actions except minor financial penalties.
