PCI Certification School
The Private Compliance Inspector (PCI) School is designed to equip professionals with the necessary education, training to become certified to conduct compliance inspections of on-site wastewater systems during the installation or repair. The role of a Private Compliance Inspector (PCI) is to verify and inspect wastewater systems for compliance with permits issued by an Authorized Onsite Wastewater Evaluator (AOWE) or Engineer (PE).

Anyone may take the class, however, applicants seeking a PCI certification must meet the following criteria:
Have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a certified contractor, authorized on-site wastewater evaluator, subsurface operator, or a registered environmental health specialist.
Not be employed by a local health department.

All applicants must complete an approved Private Compliance Inspector (PCI) Certification Course.

All applicants must complete an application for certification. The exams are administered and certifications are issued by the North Carolina Onsite Wastewater Contractor Inspector Certification Board (NCOWCICB).
Available exam dates will be listed on the application for exam provided in class.
The application must include proof of Professional Liability (E&O) Insurance. -

Private compliance inspectors are required to complete 12 Hours of in person continuing education each year. The classes must be approved by the NCOWCICB.
